[ Rose (Rosa 'Prairie Snowdrift') | Posted on April 23, 2015 ] I should note that this rose is hardy to zone 3 and was developed in Edmonton, Alberta, by Paul G. Olsen in 2008. |
[ Autumn Crocus (Colchicum 'Waterlily') | Posted on May 28, 2013 ] The leaves for colchicum come up in the spring and die back some time around June. Colchicum are marginally hardy here (zone 3a) so I mulch the plant in fall after the blooms have faded, if snow doesn't cover it first. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Sachet') | Posted on May 11, 2013 ] Very fragrant rose. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Dancing Flame') | Posted on May 11, 2013 ] Not quite as flame-like as one might expect, but with the light shining through one can see the reason for the name. |
[ Petunia Fortunia® Silver Vein | Posted on May 8, 2013 ] Single bloom is about 2 inches across. |
[ Peony (Paeonia obovata) | Posted on May 8, 2013 ] My photo is of Paeonia obovata alba, and this is the first bud since planting in 2009. The plant is in an east-facing bed, which receives good morning light. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Gallica Macrantha') | Posted on January 25, 2013 ] This rose is classed as a Miscellaneous OGR under the American Rose Society classification system, not as a species rose. |
[ Virginia Rose (Rosa virginiana) | Posted on January 25, 2013 ] R. virginiana plena is also called St. Mark's Rose by some sources, and is listed as a Miscellaneous OGR rather than a Species Rose under the American Rose Society classification system, but may be listed as a species roses under other systems. Because St. Mark's rose is very old, there is some question as to whether this is the rose to which this name historically refers. |
[ Hedge Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster acutifolius) | Posted on November 25, 2012 ] 'Peking cotoneaster' is the most common type grown in this region. |
[ Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla grandis subsp. grandis) | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] Grown from seed in its second year. There is a dark blue dot in the inside of the flower. As noted below this is typical of many dark colored pulsatilla flowers. |
[ Single Late Tulip (Tulipa 'Antoinette') | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] I was unable to find a single late tulip named antoinette by googling. However the description seems to fit otherwise. |
[ Darwin Hybrid Tulip (Tulipa 'Ivory Floradale') | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] The blooms start as a bright yellow, and they turn whiter as they mature. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Lambert Closse') | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] Not a heavy bloomer, but this was its first year. Seems a well behaved plant. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Alexander MacKenzie') | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] Alexander MacKenzie was obtained from a cross between the grandiflora Queen Elizabeth and a hardy seedling descended from a cross between the shrubs Red Dawn and Suzanne. |
[ Rose (Rosa 'Cape Diamond') | Posted on November 23, 2012 ] Planted in 2010, vigorous grower, lovely plant but very thorny. |
