[ Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata 'Brunswick') | Posted on May 14, 2018 ]

I've tried growing this twice in Tarlton, Ohio, in the fall; and the first year it got eaten up by bugs overnight (seedlings around 2" tall), leaving nothing but some of the stem. Then last fall it started out great, but just stopped growing. Never got any bigger; never formed a head. I might try it again sometime, but so far it isn't working for me.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Brandywine, Red Potato Leaf') | Posted on October 17, 2017 ]

I have read that tomatoes start turning their color from the blossom end. These don't. They almost always start from one side and closer to the top.

[ Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum 'Southern Beauty') | Posted on September 17, 2017 ]

Flue cured

[ Canna (Canna x generalis 'Giant Red') | Posted on September 14, 2017 ]

Each flower dies after a few days, and a lot of the time they don't fall off on their own, so to keep them looking good you have to pull the dead ones out. They just lift right out really easy, but if you're not careful, so do the good ones.
The lady that gave these to my mom said you have to dig them up in October and store them for the winter. When we planted them we broke the roots in half, some of the bigger ones into 3 pieces, and made sure the plant part (a red spike) was pointing up.

[ Dry Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris 'Good Mother Stallard') | Posted on September 14, 2017 ]

Just for some idea of how many to plant: I had 8 plants and I got 2 quarts of dry beans.
