I purchased this variety from Old Houses Garden, which dates this variety to 1898. I was amazed when I dug up the bulbs to see how big they were after 2 years in the ground. When I originally planted the bulbs, I did NOT refrigerate the bulbs nor store them in darkness for a couple of weeks. And I grew them in full sun in Phoenix, zone 9b. Irrigation and occasional light fertilizing.
