[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Safari') | Posted on May 14, 2016 ]

I no longer grow this sempervivum because of considerable winter die back in my zone 7 garden.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Zilver Andre') | Posted on May 14, 2016 ]

This cultivar has been culled from my zone 7 collection of Sempervivum due to constant winter damage even when covered to protect from the rain.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Shirley's Joy') | Posted on May 14, 2016 ]

Shirley's Joy has been nothing but a disappointment. This cultivar every winter dies back to the brink of death, then as the growing season progresses it recovers but never looks outstanding in my zone 7 garden. My Sempervivum gardens are covered during the rainy season and still this cultivar is a poor performer.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Ashes of Roses') | Posted on May 14, 2016 ]

This sempervivum has been culled from my collection after repeated winter damage even when covered all winter. Seems to almost die and then when spring comes it rebounds but never looks outstanding. Many other cultivars that will perform better can replace this.

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Streaker') | Posted on June 22, 2015 ]

Have had this plant for a few years and never noticed the coloration this time of year, streaked with pink on the leaves.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera Harvest™ Burgundy) | Posted on February 16, 2015 ]

Bought 2 of these last spring (2014) and both rotted over winter. These were growing around other, surviving heucheras.

[ Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum BrazelBerries® Blueberry Glaze™) | Posted on February 16, 2015 ]

This blueberry is smaller, growing to 2-3', and will form a compact bushy mound.

[ Hellebore (Helleborus Winter Jewels™ Berry Swirl) | Posted on February 1, 2015 ]

When you look at the pictures in the database, you will notice a variation of color in the pictures. Berry Swirl is a seed-grown hybrid, and cultivators choose a range of seedlings that are categorized as Berry Swirl.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Carnival Cocomint') | Posted on December 18, 2014 ]

A new plant for me this spring, this heuchera has held up well with freezing temperatures and heavy rain here in Western Washington.

[ Saxifrage (Saxifraga fortunei Berry Bright™) | Posted on November 22, 2014 ]

Western Washington received a week of below-freezing temperatures. Saxifrage fortunei Berry Bright was planted in a 20-inch container near the foundation of the house and seems to have died from the freeze. I have planted the center roots into a container to grow on in the greenhouse and see whether new growth will emerge.

[ Saxifrage (Saxifraga fortunei Pink Elf®) | Posted on November 22, 2014 ]

Western Washington recently had a week-long freezing weather episode. My Saxifraga fortunei Pink Elf was in a 20-inch container and may have been frozen by the 21-degree freeze. I have potted up the roots to see whether new growth will emerge in the greenhouse.

[ Begonia (Begonia x hybrida 'Ikon Bronze') | Posted on August 24, 2014 ]

This is a seed begonia I have grown for the past 2 seasons. Nice in hanging baskets with its dark foliage and pink flowers.

[ Sea Holly (Eryngium planum 'Jade Frost') | Posted on August 23, 2014 ]

This plant has three seasons of color. Spring growth is flushed with pink, with the variegation. In summer the stems turn a amazing bright purple, and in fall you have the seed pods. Needs good drainage and at least half a day of sun. Full sun is better.

[ Giant Lily (Cardiocrinum giganteum) | Posted on April 17, 2013 ]

Looks like I'm going to have a bloom this year. Plant is sending up a stalk.

[ Honey Bush (Melianthus major) | Posted on March 8, 2013 ]

Germinated this in damp paper towel for 2 - 3 weeks. Slow to start. Have others that germinated 3-6-2013.

[ Heucherella (XHeucherella 'Gunsmoke') | Posted on March 5, 2013 ]

Winter taking a hit on this one. Hope it bounces back.

[ Stonecrop (Hylotelephium telephium subsp. telephium 'Samuel Oliphant') | Posted on March 5, 2013 ]

When I first bought this plant it had some beautiful pink variegation. Sadly, after the first winter it was gone. Reverted back to the original plant.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Kassandra') | Posted on March 5, 2013 ]

Held its color all winter in zone 7. Just starting to show a bit of new leaves

[ Dwarf Nandina (Nandina domestica 'Filamentosa') | Posted on March 4, 2013 ]

Makes for a colorful year-round container plant in my zone 7 garden.

[ Euphorbia Excalibur | Posted on March 4, 2013 ]

Froeup AKA Excalibur has not been evergreen in my zone 7 garden. Love the new growth this time of year
