Diseases and pests that can affect celery are black heart, brown check, aphids, mosaic, nematodes, and late blight.

If allowed to grow past its maturity date, it can become pithy and hollow.

[ Mangelwurzel (Beta vulgaris) | Posted on January 5, 2014 ]

Beets are tolerant of heat and resist light frost and therefore have a long growing season. Sow seeds every 3 weeks from early spring until two months before first frost date for a constant supply.

[ Snap Pea (Lathyrus oleraceus 'Sugar Snap') | Posted on January 3, 2014 ]

Plant can become weedy as the common name implies. With the variegated species, remove any that revert to green.

[ Pheasant's Eye (Adonis aestivalis) | Posted on December 10, 2013 ]

Plants should be fertilized immediately after flowering. In zones 3-5, apply a heavy layer of mulch. When propagated by division, they will produce more blooms than the ones grown from seed.

This plant is native to the southeastern United States.

It grows in swamp forests and along stream banks and blooms April through June.

[ Pampas Grass (Cortaderia) | Posted on December 7, 2013 ]

Seeds should be grown in vermiculite and watered from bottom as they are highly susceptible to damping-off.

Roots can be dug before first frost and stored in a cool and dry environment.

Divide in early spring.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Frank Smith') | Posted on October 28, 2012 ]

Nothing significant about this bloom other than it is blooming today. It has never ever been a re-bloomer for me and for it to bloom at the end of October is unbelievable. It will be interesting to see if the two buds bloom as we have freezing temps in the next couple days. The bloom is much smaller than when it normally blooms in May.
