Brown Crowder is a medium-size crowder-type southern pea that is popular in the southeast. Peas have square ends from being overcrowded in the pods. This one is a somewhat generic variety as there have been several newer varieties introduced with similar cvharacteristics. It is sometimes called Brown Sugar Crowder, but I have not heard that name for a couple of decades. They are popular in the southeast. They have a stronger flavor than cream or Blackeye types, and those who relish these seldom like the blackeye or cream group. Primary use is as a green shellie.
