Before you bring them inside in cold-winter climates, cut back the plants quite a bit, to within 4-5 inches of the main stems. This will help eliminate the bugs and insects that hide in the plants ... prior to them coming inside. Bugs like to hang out in the tips of the branches and in the newest growth.
Also remove any dead leaves, stems and old flowers or debris in the pots and on the plants.

The Snow Queen Hibiscus can reach heights of 8 to 10 feet and spread of up to 4 feet. This plant prefers a full sun location and regular watering but is drought tolerant once established. The beautiful variegated foliage is green with white splashes and large red flowers are produced from summer to fall.
My Snow Queen Hibiscus at one time reached about 8 1/2 feet in height but was knocked back by two extremely cold winters in a row. I thought it was totally dead after last winter's freezes but to my surprise it re-sprouted from the ground in late spring this year. It's now only about 4' tall and wide but has been blooming all summer.

I have lived with an indoor snow queen hibiscus for 20 years. I inherited it in Maryland from a friend who said it lived in their shady basement apartment for 18 years. They said it was full sized when they got it. So it's 40+ years old. It never bloomed once while living in the basement (big surprise, right?)
Now, it goes outside in the summer (I live in Denver zone 6) and comes back indoors before the first frost. It flowers solid red blooms from the summer equinox until late winter like clockwork as long as I remember to fertilize it.
It's 10 feet tall and has a single trunk. The branches reach about 5 feet wide. The leaves are variegated green and white with occasional pink coloring. The variegation is more prominent when it's living outside. By April, the leaves are large and sparse.
It's quite a drama queen, turning yellow and dropping leaves when I fail to water it every 5 days. Just 30 minutes after watering, it stops drooping and looks happy again.
I've never had a plant that had so much personality as this one does!
