Will need winter protection in zone 5 the first year or two, but after that can be quite cold hardy. A tough lacecap that can handle storms and pollution well. An early bloomer. Doesn't tolerate standing water.

I have had Blue Billow for perhaps 25 years. It has been one of the most lovely and reliable plants that I have ever grown. It produced a volunteer seedling which is indistinguishable from the parent. I have since divided and shared that. I couldn't be happier with this plant!

I garden in alkaline soil. The first year I grew this plant I was fairly dedicated in getting the right amount of PH lowering amendments added to the soil around this plant; so, I had blue flowers. In following years, I forgot more often than not; so a lovely dusky rose is the color of the blooms on my "blue", 'Blue Billow' (];-)
