    The snowflake can be forced over winter after 15 weeks of cold treatment. Place in well-draining mix and cover with half-inch of soil. This should be initiated in mid-October, not earlier. You need to wait till then to allow the flower to develop inside the bulb. This is usually accomplished by mid-October. It's been noted that bulbs grown in Israel for commercial sale seem to force with better consistency than bulbs grown elsewhere. They may be transplanted into garden after bloom for flowers outside in subsequent years.

    I'm thinking this one might need a few years to settle in. Its first spring, I didn't see any blooms in the corner where I planted a dozen bulbs, and I assumed the voles ate them. This spring, I spotted this one bloom stem, and there were a number of tufts of similar leaves. I'm hoping for a better show next year!
