Southern Red Trillium has large purple-maroon flowers that are stalked and stand up above very large, bright green leaves. Flowering stems may be up to 20 inches tall. It grows naturally in rich deciduous forests, mainly west of the Appalachians from southwest Virginia to northeastern Alabama. This one prefers slightly acidic soil. Grow it on east or north facing slopes and it can form lovely clumps. Mid-to-late spring blooming.
