An antique introduced in the late 19th century by Burpee as the Improved Blood Turnip. Today it is also vended as the Early Blood Turnip. Roots are turnip shaped and have the best flavor of any beet that I have tried. It is vigorous and productive out performing Detroit Dark Red and of course tasting and particularly holding its flavor and texture much better. It does lack the uniformity of size and shape of more modern varieties.
