Baja_Costero (Baja California - Zone 11b) on Oct 26, 2019 1:35 PM concerning plant:
Medium sized rosette succulent with wide, flat, glaucous leaves and red, tubular flowers. Generally solitary, with white leaves. From a relatively small area of northern Baja California either offshore, on or near the Pacific coast: Isla San MartÃn, along the coast of San Quintin Bay, and just to the SE of that area. Some of these areas are also home to D. cultrata, a green plant with pale yellow flowers.
D. anthonyi is not widespread in habitat or common in cultivation, and often subject to misidentification. The rosette looks very similar to D. pulverulenta and the white form of D. brittonii, which are from geographically distinct areas. The latter plant makes pale yellow flowers and is easy to distinguish in bloom. Both D. anthonyi and D. pulverulenta make red, tubular flowers but the inflorescences can be distinguished by a few features other than flower color. D. anthonyi flowers are narrower, and the sepals are much shorter.
