Large, common Mexican tree yucca which can grow to about 30 feet tall and 5 feet wide at the base in old age. Older plants are usually multibranched. The amount of curled marginal filaments is variable, though a useful feature to distinguish this plant from the non-filamentous Joshua tree (Y. brevifolia), which it resembles from a distance. Yucca filifera can be instantly and easily distinguished from other tree yucca lookalikes based on its pendulous inflorescences. Other Mexican tree yuccas of similar proportions have erect inflorescences.
