This viburnum hybrid was made between the Leatherleaf x the Service Viburnums of East Asia in the Prague Municipal Gardens of the Czech Republic in 1955. It is somewhat commonly sold from conventional nurseries and planted in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, region in recent years. I don't see much of this shrub planted in the average yard, but in arboretums, estates, well-to-do neighbourhoods, campuses, and professional landscapes. It is a large, wide shrub with slender twigs that stick out sort of irregularly, and waxy, heavy-textured, dark green evergreen to semi-evergreen leaves to about 4 inches long and relatively narrow. This hybrid bears very little fruit that goes from being red to black drupes.
