"Paeonia suffruticosa 'Kamata-Nishiki', (1-DB-PR) Japanese Tree Peony, (Probably Chugai Nursery before 1940), USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Medium height, semi-double, pinkish purple petals that are darker at the base, early bloomer , Michigan Bloom Month 5b-5c.

Aka Kamatanishiki. Large, ruffled flowers. Looks very pink, not so much purple. Mine has a herbaceous root stock that sends up shoots that need to be cut back almost every year. Photos in Carsten Burkhardt's peony database vary considerably."
