This agave was collected by Felipe Otero under the name FO-076 and distributed as Agave titanota, later Agave "Sierra Mixteca". It was named as a distinct species in Otero's honor in 2019. It is a small to medium (18-36") greenish, offsetting plant with extra gnarly spines from in Oaxaca. A few different versions of this plant appear in cultivation, some of which were grown from seed from cultivated plants. Agave titanota is usually glaucous white or blue-white, not green, and usually lacks the midstripe that is common on Agave oteroi.
