I harvested the first of the Hakurei turnips on Feb 7th when I saw the tops of a few were above the surface of the soil. They are the size of a ping pong ball.

I sampled one while raw and it was tender with a mellow taste. It did not have the bite of a radish although I have read they will with age when allowed to grow larger. Very tasty. They will make an excellent addition to fresh salads.

I hope to continue growing these. They have survived some lengthy subfreezing temperatures with no added protection. Definitely a suitable winter crop here. I need to try these during the warmer growing seasons as well.
