Very large palm shaped green leaves speckled with cream. Very impressive. The variegation changes with the seasons, more mature plants exhibit more striking color.

Introduced by Terra Nova Nursery and named by Mr. Hirose of Iwakuni, Japan.

Paperplant is a Japanese native that thrives in shaded spots and naturally inhabits forested lands. It can be somewhat invasive and has become naturalized across many parts of the world.
Branched inflorescences hold rounded clusters of tiny ivory flowers at the branch tips. After pollination by ants and other insects, rounded heads of black, globose fruits develop. These mature in fall or winter and are eaten by birds.

Specimens can sucker from the base and become large and sprawling. Plant as a striking accent for shrub borders or architectural settings, such as courtyards or walled gardens.
