Not only is this bush/shrub very attractive in the garden, but its leaves and dried fruit are wonderful used in cooking. They provide a peppery taste.
In quick-cooking foods such as steak, hamburgers, etc, it can be added before cooking (mixed with oil as a marinade). When used in longer-cooking foods such as soups, stews, or roasts, it is best to season with the ground berries when serving, not during cooking.
