This hosta is frequently (erroneously) known as 'Geisha'. It has come to be the trade name for this plant. From the Hosta Library entry - "The plant we know as 'Geisha' is the same as a hosta imported from Japan under the name 'Ani Machi', which should be considered a Japanese synonym. The plant registered by Kevin C. Vaughn in 1983 is believed lost. But as there is no real 'Geisha' any more, the name has been standing for over a decade and a large number of plants in gardens bear the name."

This hosta looked good in the spring when it first came up, but within one month it was very ugly. This hosta does not do well in zone 8a. It does not tolerate heat very well, and I got rid of all four of mine.

This is a quote from Hallson's listed under Hosta 'Geisha'

Comments: This is a fast growing plant with very attractive and distinctive coloring and a nice flower display. The Japanese name is Hosta. 'Ani Machi' but it was introduced in the US as H. 'Geisha'.
