Range: northeastern Oregon, Idaho, and Colorado, to the central Sierra Nevada of California. Additional info: the plant contains alkaloids poisonous to livestock, particularly sheep, since cattle rarely graze where it grows. The pods of this and other species have elastic walls which—when touched—instantly curl back and explosively eject seeds.
