    According to Lodewick and Lodewick (Key to the Genus Penstemon), distinguished from Penstemon davidsonii by "leaves toothed at least near tip", and found from SW BC (at sea level), south to Mt. Rainier on the west side of the Cascade Range, and in the Olympic Mts. in Washington.
