The outside of the flowers are pale purple with white hairs, the inside is pale green with a wide bar that is green at the base shading to purple at the top. Tips are recurved revealing the beautiful interior. "Murasaki" means purple, but this clematis was named after a character in The Tales of Genji, an old Japanese novel.
