I marked this as a flowering tree. That is incorrect. The seeds (samaras) are a brilliant crimson red in the late summer/early fall, but since the flowers are insignificant (pretty pathetic) and these are so incredibly showy, I wanted to point out that this is not just a shade tree, but a tree of interest. These are not suitable for planting as they will not produce this tree (?). But since the seed pods are SOOO noticeable, that's why I marked it as a flowering tree. If you have the ability to grow a maple & need a small tree, I highly recommend this tree. Tolerates winter sun scalding, drought, extreme temperature fluctuations, bad soil, etc. Cannot state tolerant for salt or bunny/deer nibbles as I do not know.
