Another method sometimes used for over-wintering tropical hibiscus such as this variety is to cut them back to about 6-8 inches tall and store in the garage, basement or a closed dark room in the house with little or no light. Keep the temperature between 40° to 50° F. Do not water.

In the spring, put the plants outside, water and fertilize them. Blooms have been reported to occur after several months.

This method is also used with Poinsettias.
