Paeonia 'Red Emperor' (Auten, 1931) is a Japanese type lactiflora cultivar: bright red, midseason bloomer, medium height, tends to fade, stiff stems, full center. This may not be one of Auten's most popular cultivars, but it is one of my favorites. He is more noted for his red peonies like 'Big Ben', 'Chocolate Solider', and 'Early Scout'.
