This "Iron Butterfly' Threadleaf Ironweed is being sold by a good number of nurseries in the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, the Midwest, and part of the South US. It has a wonderful fine texture and it makes an easy, reliable perennial for sun and moist to dry soils. This cultivar is more compact than the mother species. The mother species comes from Oklahoma and Arkansas. Despite being a compact kind of perennial, after getting to be an older plant, it falls over somewhat. It should be cut back half-way in June to keep it from doing that.
