'Flashy Lightning' first forms a mini-head, then a denser butterhead before bolting. It combines oakleaf and butterhead traits. The maroon splashes become pink in the blanched heart. Crisp, mild, sweet, very low in bitterness.

Many of Frank Morton's new lettuce varieties are said to be well adapted to the PNW and organic growing conditions.
