Emberglow puts on a great display here and the hummingbirds love it. Just as Crocosmia 'Lucifer' is wrapping up it's bloom, Emberglow takes over. Overwintering just fine without protection since winter 2010/2011, I'd guess this is a hardier plant than advertized. When not in bloom, the stiff sword shaped leaves make a nice statement as well. Cut and dried they last quite a while. One leaf per tuber though or you risk damaging it.

    Parentage: C. paniculata × C. pottsii

It's mid-June and my 'Emberglow' crocosmias are starting to flower. They are a favorite because they have variations of orange to red on each flower. They also get red as the flower matures, adding to that textural element. They make a good cut flower that lasts a couple of days indoors.
