Japanese Climbing Hydrangea prefers part shade and good, moist soil. Growing 20 to 30 feet tall, this variety, 'Moonlight', has heart-shaped, almost succulent, silvery leaves with green veins and 9 inch, lacy, pie-shaped, creamy white flower clusters in mid to late summer. Plants climb by means of "hold fasts" which stick to any surface that is not smooth. This stout vine becomes woody over time and has a moderate growth rate. Branches will project out a foot or two from the main stems, and leaves turn a nice yellow in the fall before falling off. (Sunlight Gardens)
