The Late Lilac is native to China. The leaves are of a lighter green colour than most lilacs and get to 7 inches long by 2.5 inches wide and are not as sharp pointed, sort of round pointed. It does flower later than most other lilacs being of late May and early June and it actually blooms on the currant season's growth rather than last season's growth like most other lilacs and shrubs. I infrequently come across some of either this species or its hybrid of the Preston Lilac (S. x prestoniae), but I can't really tell. I think most are actually the Preston hybrid species that has many cultivars as 'James MacFarlane' and 'Donald Wyman.'
