In order to get Nerines to flower year after year as a perennial, it is best to grow them in pots for a couple of years to allow the plant to develop strong and healthy rhizomes/bulbs before transplanting into the ground in the UK. Otherwise, Nerine is treated as an annual bulb.

When the Nerine bulbs are planted, the neck of the bulb should be just above the soil level. Nerine does not like being planted deep and completely covered with soil at all.

Nerines usually flower from the end of August to the end of November in the UK. The drier and the colder the weather, the better Nerine performs. In wet weather the slugs seem to munch the stems as if someone cut the flower and left it on the ground as a bad joke.
