I am enjoying watching young plants I started from seeds this spring. I collected the seeds late last fall when I saw the earlier green pea-size pods had turned black in our Taco Bell flower bed. I let them dry completely over winter indoors. They had shrunk to 1/2 the original size and were hard when I soaked them overnight and planted them in April 2018. By June 1st I started getting sprouts. It's mid Oct. and they are 3 to 4" tall.

I collected red to black seeds in March 2018 from plants in my daughter's yard. After they completely dried up for 3 months, I sowed 12 seeds on June 22. It's July 20 and today I found a 2" sprout and 2 more breaking through the soil. This happened overnight as I've checked daily, anticipating sprouts any day. I'm thrilled to have babies of this nice plant that does very well year around here in zone 9. I will report more progress in a month.

Most of the ornamental asparagus varieties attain the greenest leaves in partial sun/shade, and the Myers is no exception. In fact, this plant will yellow in dense shade. It needs a very well drained soil. Adding peat or bark to the mix is a plus. These plants can survive periods of neglect because they have very fleshy roots, but they will really do best with regular watering. They will also perform best with a balanced fertilizer in the spring, and I've found that they do much better for me in containers. They have very dense needle-like leaves on stiff stems reaching about 2 ft. They will survive a light frost, but severe cold may kill them back to the ground.
