Don't know if you can see it or not, but I have 3 tree peonies pushing out leaves and buds. Spring is coming.

You lucky duck!!! All of mine are still under several inches of snow, another 6 weeks or so before I'll even start looking here in CO! Is this when you normally see them, Gary? Not too early, they typically don't get blasted by any late weather?

My tree peonies have a 50/50 chance of getting frost bitten. My experience has been as long as the buds are closed tight, the temp can go down to whatever and it won't bother them unless it gets around 15 degrees or less. This time of year is usually when the trees begin to put on growth. But, it is so hot here by late April/May that the late peonies typically don't do well. Itohs and herbaceous will start to grow rapidly in late March and early April.

Very nice, Gary.
I'm a little behind you, but we are experiencing record breaking high temps this week. It is much too early for my area.

Please keep us posted!!

It is wonderful to see growths! I hope you will not have any more deep freeze, Gary! Looking forward to see beautiful tree peony blooms from your garden this year.

I am seeing growth on my tree peony too, not quite as far along as yours. I hope it will be all right, I know we should still have some cold weather ahead, February can be out coldest month

I checked on the only peony that I have left with me, and it has put out a leaf. Our temps will be going up to 77-79 today, so not what I wanted at this time of year. I hope to check on my other plants soon to see how they're doing.

We'll be cooling back down, but not temps below freezing over the next 2 weeks.

Gary - those pictures made me so happy!!

I am with Liz - waiting for the many feet of snow to melt.

At which point I will be stalking our fields daily. Hilarious!

Hi Anya,

We really don't have too much of a winter. Right now the average high is 50°F. The lows will be in the middle 20's. We might get 3 or 4 snows, but they are rarely over 4 inches.

Even so, I am ready for Spring!

Now, back to 20 degrees at night with wind chills in single digits for the weekend. Then we warm up again.

Beautiful, LG and Gary! Love to see a burst of colors from spring bulbs. I always amazed at the speed of peony growths in spring when the weather is warm eventhough I have seen and experienced it over and over.

I try to make the plants stand out. Right now they look their worst because I haven't mulched since the spring of 2017. Due again this spring. I use red hardwood mulch and it makes the green plants "pop." Black has the same effect. Harder to put out than pine needles, but worth it I think.
