Taiyo Tree Peony. A truly stunningly gorgeous, stop-you-in-your-tracks red that can be seen from the street.

I have had a red peony for a long time that I've suspected was Taiyo. With your information and lovely photos I hope to confirm it. It has a nice fat bud on it right now, but they are predicting a low of 29° overnight, so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed!

That is really starting our extended group peony season off with a bang! Let's keep track this year—date of first bloom all the way to the last one we post. Debra, what was the date when Taiyo first opened? I'm keeping an eye out for this one now because of your pic!

Liz, the bloom was open by end of day on March 28th.

Wow. I am sooooo envious. What a gorgeous bloom. Kind of reminds me of The MacKinac Grand. But that is an herbaceous.

So we'll use March 28th as the official start to the forum's season! Think we'll end up with at least 12-13 weeks, maybe even 14. I know most years if they get to open my very lates are blooming the 2nd week of July.

I've been a slacker about posting, we busily packing for the big move. TP Ruffled Pink Petticoats started blooming on Saturday, and was fully open on Sunday. It had one of the biggest buds I've ever seen on a peony. Pics were taken at different times of the day.

This is one of the latest years for my first peony bloom. Yesterday, my generic red tree peony finally bloomed.

Dianne - that color jumps out of the picture! I see you're in zone 9. How do your tree peonies do there?

(I have a friend in zone 9 and have been wanting to surprise her with a tree peony but was not sure how it would do in her climate....)

Annette I love that bloom. The form is gorgeous with, oddly enough. Lol, the ruffled finish. Are you taking your peonies when you move? Gosh I hope you can. I am 'late to the party' after a bit of a hiatus so you may have already answered this question.
