The just-released 2019 National Gardening Survey makes it sound like NGA is interested in helping to meet the needs of Americans who want to grow cannabis. Which lead me to wonder has there been discussion of adding a cannabis forum to garden.org?

Younger households also show a very high level of interest in cultivating legal cannabis: nearly half, an estimated 35.9 million U.S. residents, say they would definitely or probably grow a type of cannabis if it were legal to do so. Seven and a half million of these young adults interested in growing cannabis say that no one in their household currently participates in any lawn and garden activity.

As noted by industry analyst Ian Baldwin, "That's millions of individuals who do not currently do any gardening who would dip a toe into the water, possibly leading to a long-term relationship with the lawn and garden industry."

There is lots of info out there on growing weed, don't think the site needs a forum on the subject. Not judging. JMHO

I'm not sure if anyone has ever proposed to add a cannabis forum, but this thread can see if there is interest for one. I would think that there might be - I would be interested to see what folks are doing. I don't personally have any experience with it, other than snagging a couple big plants that washed up on the riverbank in front of my house last summer, and plopping them out in the vegetable garden. (It was a fail.) Hilarious!

If the interest was there I would have no problem with such a forum. As it is, the topic rarely gets brought up anywhere in the forums here.

Unfortunately some still think it's tabu so maybe members interested wouldn't ask for a forum. I'd be interested in one.

As a note, tho...The National Gardening Survey is simply reporting the news (or the results of the survey), it makes no assumption that NGA is in support, or trying to directly support any of the information or demographics.

I've ran across a lot of web info when searching for how best to grow something else. The info they contained was very detailed and thorough much of the time. Some of the methods used successfully might well be applicable to a lot of plants grown under specific conditions. Greenhouses, grow light systems, and watering/feeding methods are some I remember thinking would be some the information that would be pertinent to a lot of plants grown under specialized conditions. I wouldn't be likely to check in very often myself as most everything here has to take its chances outside in the elements. Likely would be some good knowledge about growing plants in general contributed to such a forum though. IMO

One might wonder why there is not a Dill or Parsley forum. I would think that Cannabis isn't that much different than growing any other herb/weed and maybe a thread would be sufficient. As mentioned, there are entire websites dedicated to growing Cannabis that cover the topic in detail. Hummm, i wonder if it is in the Database? Yes, there are 51 pages to reference.

I have nothing for or against cannabis, but judging by some of the problems we've had with a few young folks lately on the site, I wonder if it would be just asking for trouble. We're not talking serious gardeners, but those just wanting attention thru disruption.

Why are there separate forums for any plants? Why is there a Portulaca/Purslane forum?! In my opinion, Cannabis has many more interesting qualities.
There are many entire websites dedicated to a single subject, but we are here. Smiling

I'd never thought of cannabis as a gateway drug to gardening.... Whistling

-- An admirable concept, if true. But if this is how they get turned on to gardening, wouldn't they seek out gardening sites on their own? And since they already know about cannabis (and there are entire sites dedicated to the plant), wouldn't they especially be looking for things other than cannabis? My opinion, but I would rather have these gardening newbies interested in expanding their gardening experience participate here, rather than attract the entire flock of cannabis users with a dedicated forum.

I don't understand this post at all: though it's quite true that I do not understand many things other people say.

Cannabis being legal in Canada I can now grow a plant if I choose to, they are beautiful plants and if I see some at the garden center I may buy one. I would not want it in the house as they have a strong odor.

That's for sure, Margaret! Our neighbor grows it and it really stinks. We thought it was skunks when we first got a whiff of the plants.

I have no interest in being a user, just want to grow it as a potted plant. Hilarious!
