We're glad you are all here, and would love to hear from you! A few of us chat on the monthly farm journal thread, talking about our days (and nights) and what's going on right now at the farm. It's more than big enough to accommodate a much larger number, so come on in and let us know what's up at your place.

I love all the new threads that have been started over the last few months and hope you all keep it up - and I'll try to keep up!

We've had a couple new members join in and I hope to learn more about you over the next few months. tell us about your place, large or small.

Just a lurker here, too. Always wanted to live on a farm, enjoy going to county fairs, but always lived in the suburbs. As a dog breeder, I do have an interest in animal law. I think everyone who owns animals need to work together to stop HSUS and their henchmen from pushing through unnecessary laws that effect animal production, ownership, or use of any sort. They dupe the public with their staged sad eyed "puppy mill" pictures and haul in millions in contributions that they use to promote their agenda. I really enjoy hearing the stories about your farms, and animals, so, I lurk!!

Hey Deb, glad to have you here.

HSUS is a thread to all animal lovers. Their stated goal is to remove all animals from human contact. Not very wise or helpful.

Growing up we always had critters of some type at home. We raised racing pigeons & show pigeons had
the occacional chicken and duck. Grew up with horse's . Had my first when I was 4 a stallion named"Blackie" my dad would help at the farm and give the owner some birds for board on the horses.
My last horse "Dakota" was my baby. When I had to find him a new home. I let Dakota pick his new Mom
and he did a Great job. Sue was a great new mom for him. We lost Dakota last year after 32 Great years
Hopefully one day I will have another horse and Im planing on some chickens & pigeons once we get
settled in RI

I Love reading all your farm critter stories Lovey dubby

Hmm, 3/4 of an acre can't really be a farm. Lots of chickens living up in the woods that I feed cracked corn every morning. Hey, maybe I am a farmer!

Tom, they have done a wonderful job of pulling the all natural non-animal fiber over the public's eyes. I feel ill when I hear small children spouting their propaganda.

The US government recognizes any farm that sells $1000 a year as a farm. I think if you are committed to raising your own food, fiber or fuel that you qualify.

I am an occasional reader and poster. I managed to live on a farm for 4 years, but even after my husband's job transfer, where we were unable to find a farm (although we continued to look for the next 10 years) we boarded our sheep and cattle during that time.

I no longer own farm animals but am the sheep superintendent at our county fair and am involved in other animal shows throughout the region, plus 4H.

I stay in touch this way with my many farming friends, and suffer through the vagarities of weather, milk prices, etc with them.

Dear Kathleen, this may be the wrong place to put this and if so delete it! At the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show which is the biggest in the world, a supermarket chain and the National Farmers Union (students), made this!
It was breathtaking as the students even made the stand, it was called the "Best of British" and was done to show what can be done with education, training and some hard work. I loved it and so the did the judges for it got a Gold medal.
Here it is.
Regards and I hope the family are well?
Neil.

Neil, that is wonderful. thank you for posting it.

All here are well, with the exception of a granddaughter with a slightly broken ankle. With all going well, she should be running around unencumbered by crutches sometime next week. we are having a little rain - first since early in the month. Nowhere near enough, but we are taking any we can get and no complaints at this point.

Dear Kathleen, I am most sorry to hear about your granddaughter and we hope she gets well. The pictures i had to put on as the National Farmers Union students and the supermarket also won a Gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show! That is a remarkable achievement, I know as I have one! The work involved is immense, but the thing is it showed what could be done and that is important! Even the flower arrangements had vegetables in them. The students were there telling everyone how they had learnt how to grow all this and look after animals as well, but animals are not allowed in the Pavilion. My University won the best environmental farm stand at Hampton Court as well. It is great to have a politician that is a farmer and in charge of this education.
These are from the Chelsea Flower show in May.

Gosh, Neil, I can't think of a better visual cheer-me-up on a gloomy day than those photos. Would you mind if I printed some of them to post at my work station?
