I have 3 bleeding hearts (2 of the bright green leaf variety and one with the darker green leaves). Every year (Aug.) these 3 turn brown and wither away. They come back every spring, no problem. I have more bleeding hearts about 50 feet away that have no problem. What's up?

Hi Rita and welcome.
All of my bleeding hearts go dormant by mid-July. I have the pink ones and white ones. They all slowly fade. I cut the brown foliage and discard in compost.

I too have regular green bleeding heart as well as "gold heart" bleeding heart, they both disappear once summer is underway. I also have fern leaf bleeding heart and it does grow all summer, and blooms and looks healthy.
