Would love to see pics of peony pips breaking ground, tree peony buds breaking dormancy, and/or spring flowers that are currently blooming in your garden.

I can probably respond in a couple of months:) Here in SE Michigan it is still quite cold.

I have been spending a lot of my time taking photos of my conifers. I find that the winter months are great for conifer photos because the pesky perennials are all asleep. I have shot 91 of 177 conifers so far, so I am over half way there.

Post away Frank! I am curious what everyone's gardens look like at this time of year. As this has been a pretty mild winter, I wonder if anyone is getting blooms further south.

I have some magenta peony tips just starting to poke through, but where can I find out what kind of orphan peonies I rescued? They were in a backyard of a newly purchased house and I was consulting on drainage issues, were going to end up under a patio. so I dug em up and potted them.


What's blooming in my yard right now? Rosemary and Tazetta Narcissus. And violets.

Alice, my tazetta does not bloom until mid April. Wow, your area is like 2 months ahead of my zone. Would you say that your season begin earlier this year or just the same as previous years? Violets come into bloom about May for my zone, much later on.

Yes Karen, Tête-à-tête is always the first to bloom for me, followed by N. Ice King. I don't remember if I brought any of the latter with me!

I dug up several spring blooming bulbs for our move, but didn't tag them. I'll have to do so when they bloom.

If you rotate them in Windows, the turn may not be permanent. The viewers in Windows keep track of how it should be presented, but they do not change the file. Use an image editor to rotate them.

The front beds are planted with pansies, that have been blooming all winter, snapdragons, and spring blooming bulbs, that are just emerging.

Unfortunately, one of the neighborhood cats has been using my right front bed as it's potty, which has affected the growth of the pansies!

I also have a lot of potted bulbs, Hyacinth Sweet Invitation is the first to emerge!

Now, we are talking! This is what I like to see!

LG, love your bridal wreath spirea and hellebores. Do you know if the spirea makes a long lasting cut flower? I think it will be so pretty in an arrangement. I am still waiting on my tete a tete. Those are so cute but very tough!

Inside rather than outside but cherry! Outside is solid ice and snow, probably at least 6-8" deep over my beds...

Karen, those are pansies in the front beds. They survive our winters.

I have only one garden that is all conifers. All of my other gardens have at least one conifer. I do have mostly dwarf conifers. Here is a photo taken Feb 11, 2020. And, for some reason, my grass has turned white...

Garage grown peonies... I managed to temper them with soil temps at or below 40 degrees for 425 hours. Now we've got 3 days in a row where they can stay out both day and night and they really need some time in the sun!


Pink Hawaiian Coral with 3 shoots started. This is one of my earliest planted grow-bag plants and I gave it a huge 12 gallon grow bag because I intend to leave it bagged for 2 years. It has clearly spread-out and has taken advantage of it's space.


Lorelei is out in front with a pair of Raspberry Sundaes in the background. This plant really, really, needs sunlight now and the Raspberry Sundaes are beginning to unfold leaves and will want the sun as well.


Lemon Chiffon has put up a pair of stalks that are uniform and very thick. The root had arrived in a very dried-out, withered condition, but obviously it has made a come-back.

I will be glad when the temps get a little more predictable and in the range where I don't have to lug the 13 grow bags around.

Frank, love your green and white scenery. As much as I love it, I rather admire it from afar!

Top, isn't Lemon Chiffon pips exquisite! I love the red stems with the golden foliage. Can't wait to see mine pop out of the ground.

They seem to be stout, uniform and almost stately compared to the wilder, more uneven growth of the other cultivars. And you are right, the colors are very rich. I definitely need to speed more time observing the early stages of peony growth - being able to pick out a few at an early stage might be useful.
