Hello Everyone,
I've leaned SO MUCH from you all since my cucumber seed Fiasco. I just planted new cucmubers seeds and have hid my watering can. πŸ™ƒ
I got another possible problem. I bought Hostas seeds from the WISH APP (which I know is risky). But one of them actually sprouted on a moist paper towel! I planted the whole thing in the seed starter mix and it looks like a root is coming up.

Should I replant it and put the whole thing back under soil? Or is it ok?πŸ™

It does not look like a hosta, hosta seeds are elongated and flat.

I don't know what kind of seeds you planted but that little plant won't make it as the cotyledon is gone.

Not hosta seeds, I would just plant them in a small container with a small amount of soil and see what you get. JMHO

The seeds actually look like Lilium seeds, not Hosta.

Why do you say that, Bonitin?

I say the seeds actually look like Hosta seeds, not Lilium.

Perhaps the seeds were actually some type of Allium seed, or another monocot with that tubular cotyledon shape? Shrug!

I googled Hosta seeds and found this, these seeds look very elongated.

And these are Lilium seeds:

Slrice's photo look more like Lily seeds to me.

But you might be right that they are not Lilium seeds, it was just a guess.. Smiling

Oh yes, Bonitin, now I do recall some (most?) Hosta seed being more oblong like that, but not all. Still, I'm really not that experienced in that genus to know enough to say. But I do know lilies, as I have personally examine about 75 different Lilium species seeds, plus hybrids. They are not Lilium, but I do see the resemblance.

Danita's suggestion is a good possibility. There are round seeded and flat seeded types of Allium, and they are almost always black. Both Hosta and Allium are monocots and do not have the two cotyledons that we are so accustomed to. I've grown about 15 different species of Allium from seed, and it is pretty common for the first single narrow leaf tips to wither like that when grown inside. The first shoot of a hosta should widen to resemble a normal leaf.

So I lean toward an Allium of some type, but we will know for sure as the plant grows.

Hi Crawgarden and everyone, I still don't know if these are Hostas, but they both are alive and growing the same way. Thanks for the advise to put them in some soil and see what happens. Da not dead! They're actually growing long leaves. Hurray! Hurray!

Hey @Slrice
Sorry for a late reply. I know, this is kinda a "dead thread"
This is a Lilium seed I think. Seed shape sure looks like it, and that sprout looks like a liily seedling too.
