Asking for a friend, who says his family has had this as a houseplant for 20+ years. He wants to repot it and give it more care and would like to know exactly what it is so he may better care for it

Looks to me like a begonia.
A rhizomateous begonia...
Though I know not which one...

i do see the begonia resemblance, though ive never seen one like it myself, i asked my friend if hes ever seen it flower, he hasn't gotten back to me, but its possible it wasn't kept in enough light.

Still open to any other ideas....

Thank you!

The pictured Begonia looks like a Begonia Ricirifolia. My friend just bought one and that what the tag said.

I also agree with the ID of Begonia; a similar one for comparison is Begonia (Begonia x ricinifolia)
