Thread OP

Hello all
I have an octopus plant and for a while now I've noticed this tiny black shiny dot pest are all on the back of the leaves. Could you please help to identify and please suggest what i can do to get rid of? Also my plant looks sick... do you guys think its because of the bug?

Others will chime in on treating the pests on your Schefflera. I will point out that pest infestations are often a sign of a plant being under stress for other reasons, such as improper light or water. So, you may need to address the underlying conditions as well as the pests. It is possible to successfully treat the pests and still lose the plant.

Looks like Spider mites to me, which thrive in hot, dry environments. Horticultural oil can smother them, but must be done 3 times at 7-10 day intervals, with particular attention to the under side of the leaves. With house plants, I do this in the shower, and then I clean the shower so that no one gets concussed from slipping on the oil that was sprayed everywhere.
