I got this plant back in September of 2019 from Pat Ball. It was the first plant in my garden I found a scape on in 2020. It also sent up an early scape in 2021 and just yesterday I found a scape on it. So it is a very early in my garden.

I did not take down the stats but it has bloomed the past two seasons.

Brian Reeder said that it showed the highest rust resistance he had seen in any Tet patterned daylily he has tested. Being I now spray for rust there is not much I can add to that.
The plant was two fans when I received it, it seems to have increased at a decent pace.

I got my Whale Tales from Pat Ball as well, in September 2020. I haven't seen any flowers yet but am hoping this will be the year. It only increased from 2 fans to three last October. Perhaps it doesn't like it's location.

It's is a good parent for similar type patterns but it's rather tender even here. Zoia, it may be even more tender where you are located. It does, however, survive.

Quite a few others which are all gone. I think the bud counts were always too low for me.

2022 update… a great year for Whale Tails! It finally bloomed from June 22- July 19, making it an EM here. I got 13 blooms, not all perfect but plenty of spectacular ones. The truly exciting part is that by October, Whale Tails had added 2 more fans, putting it at 5 total. If they survive the Winter, that will be a nice strong start next year.

2023 update…Whale Tails is just fantastic here. It is super early so the patterns are very defined before it gets hot and melts out. This year, Whale Tails bloomed from June 29 to July 17 with at least 32 blooms. By October it was up to 6 fans. Pat Ball worried that it might be too tender up here but that has not been my experience.

I planted Whale Tails in 2021 in a raised Vego Bed. It did not do well there due to inconsistent watering. I managed to save it and moved it into the ground. It bloomed well in both 2022 and 2023. The blooms are beautiful.
