Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Decatur Cherry Smash')

I've had this Daylily for a very long time, probably at least 20 years. It is a strong performer, usually blooming prolifically for a long time. Last year, DCS bloomed from July 10 to August 25 ( in two locations. The second shadier location blooms later). But last year had lots of rain and cooler temps. This year ( 2022) produced a much shorter bloom time. There were mitigating circumstances, Heat, drought and invading perennials being the greatest of these. Still a pretty solid performance was had from July 14 to August 2nd.

DCS is a very bright eye catching flower. It's always nice to see it going for it through mid season. I think of it as pretty tough too, I've never pampered it.

I planted mine in the Fall in a 25 gallon tub with 5 other varieties. All bloomed the first year. The 2nd winter, 3 died - all on one side of the tub, including Decatur Cherry Smash.

2023 update, a good year for DCS. After weeding pretty extensively around this cv last Fall, it had room to breathe and produced lots of cheery bloom from July 7 to August 1.

Diana - Care to elaborate on yours for an evaluation. Even if a daylily cultivar doesn't do well for you, we all want to hear about it. What do you think caused you to lose yours?

I lost a couple of others next to it in the same tub. Whatever happened wasn't likely to be cultivar dependent, and I don't really know what the problem was. Five other daylily cultivatars survived in that same tub.
