Itsy Bitsy Spider is zone 3 cold-hardy (always a plus) but it does more than survive in cold climate gardening, this one thrives here.
Depending on the time of day, it may appear as a pale pastel yellow ... or intensify to a full golden-lemon yellow. And it's tall - I do believe it reaches the full 35-inches of the stats. Yes, the bloom is a petite flower (less than 4 inches), but it puts out so many at a time, there is always a show.
The foliage is a lighter lemony-green tone (not the deep, dark blue-green of so many others), but it forms very nice clumps. Nor does it get overrun by its neighbors ... which, in my gardens, happens to be 'Jacob Kline' Monarda. It holds its own.
It blooms here in early season, beginning the last week of June and into at least the middle of July. Don't let its delicate appearance fool you - this is a work-horse, producing a steady parade of blooms. And that very early bright yellow, hoovering on tall scapes above all the surrounding green, heralds the coming of the summer gardens - and raises the bar for anything else that comes along after.
