I planted Ming Toy back in 2018, a tiny fan or two from G Wild. If it did anything the first few years, I didn't catch it but I didn't becomes serious about recording everything until 2021, so it was probably spitting out a few blooms that I missed. Anyway, in 2021 it bloomed from July 15- August 15, with at least 8 blooms. 2022, Ming Toy bloomed July 21-August 1 with 19 blooms and this year it bloomed from July 14- August 4 with 22 blooms counted.

It's nice to see the numbers going up! This is planted in a somewhat shady location, near Carmen Renee. They often show up in pictures together. Ming Toy is a cheery, no nonsense sort of a flower, just big dark red, shortish blooms with a distinctive yellow mid rib. I'm happy it seems to be ok with the spot it's in. I have a lot of historic plants and this fits into that category.

The official AHS picture & description do not indicate a lighter mid-rib. There are several pictures on the NGA site that show a lighter mid-rib and may not be the real 'Ming Toy'. My 'Ming Toy' which I have had a long time does not have lighter mid-ribs.

This 4" early bloomer had an FFO of 6 May this year. In a sub-optimal location it still is a reliable bloomer albeit with lower bud count and shorter scapes than I would like. I keep it as part of the historical collection.

Uh oh. It could be yet another case of G Wild sending whatever the heck instead of the real plant. Although, I must admit to liking my version better!

My Ming Toy is one of my early bloomers too, blooming late May. Not my favorite look, but it blooms well and early.
