I use the common Hosta Lancifolia in many of my gardens as a ground cover and to hide the leaves of bulbs after they are done blooming.

I posted this in the Lily forum and thought it might get a conversation going in the Hosta.

Do you plant any bulbs in your Hosta gardens?

Do you plant Hostas in your perennial gardens? Pic please.

I have some Oriental Lilys and some Iris's and Tulips mixed in with my hosta's that are in the sun. Nothing is blooming here so will have to post pics later.

I have a woodland garden and was thinking of adding more bulbs for early color in the bare areas left by the hostas. I like seeing your mix.

I got your tag. Did you plant the bulbs? I am successful with all spring bulbs and lilies. Not successful with bearded iris. There is a early iris that works Crested iris Iris cristata

Am glad you posted. I will be out this week moving some Asiatics into my hosta beds. Here is one lily that accidentally got placed with the hostas. Loved the way they bloomed at the same time.

I had daylilies blooming with the hostas and it was a pretty combo too.

Do you have no red lily beetles where you live? Count yourself lucky if you don't. I no longer grown anything except daylilies.

No it is probably the only thing I do not have. Count yourself lucky if you do not have deer, groundhogs, rabbits and possum, squirrels an occasional bear.

My big accomplishment is growing hostas.

Imagine moving a hosta so big you need a dolly to move. It takes you hours to dig up and push it to its new home.

Get up the next morning and this is what you see.


I spray have traps and and sometime I can have about a hundred hostas with leaves until about August, then I give up and then come the deer, groundhogs and whatever else come and eat everything to the ground.
