How To Cut Spent Amaryllis/Hippeastrum Bloom Stalks in Difficult Spaces

By mcash70
January 3, 2014

Once the beautiful blooms have faded on your Amaryllis plants, the bloom stalks will need cutting if you are not letting the plant set seed pods. This will let the energy go into the production of the leaves to feed the bulb.

Oh, we save them to use when working with the 2-part epoxy. They provide a good mixing surface, and are a good tool for spreading/evening the epoxy.

We used to use them to scrape ice off the windshield, but uh...live too far south now. Well, shut my mouth - *Blush*

Darn, and I've ben tossing those cards for years.

Thanks for the info. I got 4 bulbs right after Thanksgiving to use as Christmas decorations. All have bloomed a couple times & new shoots still starting. Now I know how to best trim off those stalks.
Blessed are the Quilters for they are the Piecemakers.

Thank you Dollybelle! I tip my hat to you.

I had another difficult one to cut the other day, the leaves were curved around the stalk and here is how I used the cardboard to cut it, worked perfectly, no cut leaves. Big Grin
