I gave this to my daughter, it was in bud on the top but it was a grafted so did not know what color, then there was a bud below the grafted area and I got a different color.

Stems that form below the graft often sap energy from the blooms that the plant was grafted to have. Can be exciting, but keep an eye on those lower stems, and prune hard so that they will behave.

Sorry about the sideways photo, I don't know how to rotate! This plant was one of the first "yellow" blooming plant on the market, only a few years ago. The blooms look white! haha. The big curved stem has the reddish pink flowers that are not in any way remarkable. But all that energy has been taken away from the white part. I will graft the white onto that stem eventually, if I am ever successful at grafting!! Grrrr, I keep trying, don't know what I'm doing wrong. Owell!!

.This is my last effort at grafting,, the bottom is laughing at me! Two sprouts from the stem, and the scion is toast. GRRRRRR!!!! (this is another plant with the same problem of an unwanted limb)

Mark, that pot looks awfully deep. It will cause your soil to stay too wet causing root and caudex rot, especially if the soil is not well draining. What do you think Melissa?

Your pot is too narrow, and deep, they like a shallow pot with just enough room for some soil.

Hum, can't really tell from the photo. Not easy to find the right kind of pot! A deep pot should be OK as long as it's not watered a lot until the plant gets somewhat rootbound. Once there are lots of roots, they will use the water OK, as long as the plant is actively growing. If the plant drops all its' leaves for some reason, it should be kept well on the dry side, tho' maybe not dusty dry.

What could happen in a couple of years, is the roots actually growing so big that they break the pot!

Oh, I just looked at the enlaged photo. Yes, deeper than usual, but if you don't over water, should be OK. Haha, long roots!

It's a cup! Haha...I'll be sure to change it...it drains really well, I used my plumeria mix for it!
