I just ordered some seeds for Calandrinia Umbelleta 'Ruby Tuesday'. Has anyone had any success growing this?

I had to google it. Wasn't sure what it was so no, I've not grown it. Please let us know how it does for you. Sure is pretty.

It was the part about tolerating hot and dry areas that got me to try it! I love the plants that love hot and dry conditions.

Did you plant these seeds in the fall, or were you waiting until spring?

I had no luck last year, but this year I was finally successful. I soaked seed in a very light dose of GA3 and then sowed them in a closed container of vermiculite, set near a north-facing window.

What is GA3?

Gibberellic acid is a plant-derived growth stimulant. Short story based on what I've read is that some rock plants have adapted to sprouting in conditions with GA3 present because they know there's enough debris/organic matter there that they may have a better chance to survive...or something like that anyway.

I haven't found that article yet. I have the feeling that it's one I found accidentally while searching out a specific plant's germination info. I'll let it percolate around in my brain a bit and it'll probably come to me...eventually!

These are certainly a good example of the delayed sprouting mechanism; averaging one new sprout per week!

So, what's going on with this?

I just found this thread/forum. Just wanted to say we planted Rock Purslane in my DD's new landscaping -in early June. It is thriving in San Diego where there is currently a drought. DD collects unused water from showers etc and uses that to water her landscaping plants. But the Rock Pu-rslane are definitely less needy than some of the others we planted.

They need some water, but aren't guzzlers of it.
